BALIK KAMPUNG TREAT

Sour Curry Fish

I am in Jitra for now, seems like I have left Kuala Lumpur yesterday with a full sack of sweet, sour and bitter taste of life from an extraordinary story ....the beautiful things is I am just an ordinary human being. Can you see how great the life is...??? WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD... OH YEAH... And another great thing is, I left Kuala Lumpur for the crave of mom's cooking... That's what I am looking forward.... 6 1/2 hours journey isn't a problem to me when it comes to mom's food. The first thing I will do after hopping off the car, run into the kitchen and start stuffing my mouth with mom's cooking... BELIEVE IT OR NOT...!
Ya... the 6 and 1/2 hours journey on the bus, really testing my patience and also made me thinking deeply into certain matters. It was making me headache actually plus my hungry tummy crying, I purposely made myself hungry so that I can eat more when I reach home... Greedy CT hahahaha....
And my waiting was so satisfying .... As I opened the lid, It was Ikan Masak Asam Pedas or Sour Curry Fish ...Warm rice with splash of sweet dark soya sauce and fresh cut cucumber. Nothing can compromise that...!!!!

MY LAZY DAY

Ikan Asam

My brothers doesn't really eat much, and they are a bit fussy and particular about food.... One, can't eat chicken and seafood... Another one, doesn't like some vegetables.... he only eats selected vegetables.... MMMM..... It's not easy to be a 'momma' or I could say a 'cook' for these two guys... For something simple and to make my job easier, I cooked fish and vegetables in one dish... Easy...! 'Ikan Asam' Fried Fish In Tamarind Juice And Vegetables.. Saute onion, garlic and ginger... Tamarind juice, salt and sugar... Some vegetables, for my recipe today.... I love to use zucchini and cherry tomato..... Welcome to the simplicity of Malay cuisine....

Today Shara is with the rest in Kuala Lumpur, she left with bus. Me, Donut and Jojo are still here in Jitra , as usual we do some gardening in the evening. It was a very hot day, but later the heat was slightly cooled since the proud sun went hiding behind the gallant mountains... What a relief... I was perspiring the whole afternoon and the thirst is unquenchable, I cant remember how many glasses of water have I drank and I keep on asking Jojo to drink more water than usual. I am afraid he is going to get dehydrated and might fall sick again, he has this sickness called 'lazy syndrome'. So I sent him drinks hourly just to make sure that he is drinking... What a spoiled baby...! It's kind of quiet here since Shara is not around, her room is just so tidy! MMMM.... Unlike when she was around, another spoiled BIG BABY!
This 'Lazy syndrome' of Jojo's is contagious, I think I am infected too... What shall I cook tonight...? Nothing much left in the freezer, Sea Bass again? "Ikan Siakap Sweet Sour OK??" ......"Alright mummy!"... Sea Bass again for tonight....

About one week ago.. me, Donut, Jojo and Shara went for a dinner in Alor Setar. Feel kind of missing the Tom Yam there.. We used to eat there before we moved to Jitra, It's quiet near to the house.. A nice cosy small restaurant serving normal Tom Yam shop's menu. So for the crazes... we ordered Ikan Siakap 3 Rasa... 3 Rasa means, 3 flavors... Sweet, sour and spicy, not too spicy just a bit of chili hot mmm...yummy... And today, it's irresistible for me to have the same dish for our lunch, I cooked my sea bass bought last night. And it is just YUMMY... Some like Sweet Sour, Steam With Lemon or Chili Fry, but I always love 3 Rasa.
